Day 1: Thursday, 30th January
Today is New Year ’s Eve. I headed to work at 8am as usual and was pleasantly surprised to see the workplace decorated with red streamers. Because of the occasion, flight traffic was heavy in the morning and did not slow down throughout the day. Work was supposed to end at 1pm, but due to the high traffic, my colleagues and I were held back till 3pm before the next shift took over. After work, I headed for the supermarket to grab some last minute items for the house. I had offered to help my mum seeing she was so stressed over preparations for CNY.

There was no work today as it is the New Year. I spent the day visiting relatives with the rest of my family. Both my dad and I have a driving license. Since it was CNY, I decided to take the wheel and give my dad a break. We headed for grandma’s house first, followedby 2 other relatives in my extended family. During the visit to the last house, my little cousin who isn’t so little anymore, came up to me to ask about my job. He has recently completed his A levels and was scouting for a right university course which would take him to his preferred job.

Day 2: Friday, 31th January
There were another 2 rounds of visitations today. The day seemed to pass by quickly because I had spent most of my time playing with my cousin’s two toddlers. They had gotten a new set of toys which consisted of figurines in Navy uniforms.

Day 3: Saturday, 1st February
Phew! No visitations today. I woke up at 2pm and had a really late brunch with my sister. We visited the mall to grab a snack and managed to takeaway some finger food for my parents back at home. Because it was a Sunday, I was at ease and the day was generally uneventful. On the way home, my sister and I were talkingand she mentioned how her days in school had been. She had applied for a Summer exchange programme and was planning to stay there. It made me feel a sense of pride and a sudden realisation that my little sister has grown up.

Day 4: Sunday, 2nd February
I had taken leave today to extend my CNY weekend. I decided to help my sister source for places of interest she could visit while in Canada. I had told her about my own exchange experiences and encouraged her to play more than hitting the books. That was how I spent the day – crawling the web for attractions, sights and tourist destinations.

Day 5: Monday, 3rd February
Back to work after many days of rest. I’ve always liked what I do because I get to meddle with aircrafts. Today was no exception. We were told flight traffic would be slow for the coming week, so we hadmore than enough time to spare in maintaining the aircrafts in the hangar. 3 planes had signed in today. One was owned by SQ, one a
shared aircraft by Star Alliance currently on loan by SQ, and the last one by Scoot.

Day 6: Tuesday, 4th February
Another uneventful day at work. 2 more aircrafts had signed in. One was under Silk Air and the other was from Tiger Airways. I was assigned to work on the Tiger Airways aircraft. I had just completed my part with the Silk Air aircraft that had arrived late last week. I could not help but compare the conditions in which the Silk Air and Tiger aircraft shared. Both were an A330; their exteriors were identical except for the airline logo, and yet the interior furnishings were so different.
